Prova No. 4 Tinto 2016 is an old vine blend of predominantly Tinta Roriz, made in a more restrained, elegant style. Earlier picking, gentle handling and maturation in older French oak barriques has allowed for a more sensitive expression of Douro red from these century old vines. It's a wine that's showing great complexity now, and whilst offers great drinking at this time, will reward further cellaring.

“Experimentation is a key tenet of winemaking, as one seeks to make better wines from vintage to vintage. The Prova series allows us to bottle stand out wines from such experimentation. Prova 3 and 4 are part of of the genesis story of Quinta da Pedra Alta. In 2015, an opportunity arose for João and Matt to purchase grapes from a vineyard neighbouring QPA, to make their own unique interpretations of Douro reds. Matt and João learnt a great deal from these initial trials, the first building blocks of the approach they would take when Ed and Iz acquired Quinta da Pedra Alta in 2018. Prova 3 and 4 are the second set of trials they conducted, from a classic Douro vintage in the shape of 2016. Enjoy!"
